Can Do - Do Now!
Hello Shipmates, Associate Members,
Hello Shipmates and Associate Members:
It is time to finalize your plans to attend the 22nd biannual USS Hancock reunion. Our Association has grown in
the last 40 years, and you will want to be a part of the excitement brewing around this growth. This year's reunion
will be in Kansas City, Missouri, at the Intercontinental Hotel on the Country Club Plaza. It's important to make
your hotel reservations directly with the hotel phone # 816-756-1500 or 866-856-9717. (See Page 9 of this Newsletter.)
The USS Hancock group rate is $119 plus tax per night.
Exciting, and educational tours are available the week of the reunion. Be sure to sign up for the National WW I
Museum tour scheduled for Saturday, May 26. This Museum recently opened a new display featuring the 9-foot-by-21-foot
oil on canvas depicting a procession of British soldiers after a gas attack. John Singer Sargent painted the artwork,
which is on loan from the United Kingdom's Imperial War Museum.
At the WW I Museum we will have a short memorial service. We also will display the USS Hancock's commemorative
brick, which we will place in the Museum's Walk of Honor. Check out all the tours in this issue of the Hannah News.
(See Page 8.) Sign up for the reunion and tours at the AFRI website, https://www.afr-reg.com/USSHancock2018/ or by phone at 757-625-6401. (See registration form
on Page 10.)
A number of former Hancock crew members contacted me recently. They had no idea there was a USS Hancock Association.
They discovered us through notices we placed in the VFW magazine, The American Legion Magazine, and the website
Hull Number. Several of these individuals have indicated they will attend our Kansas City reunion. So here is hoping
we can welcome new members at the reunion.
It is hard to believe that two years have passed since I assumed the position of President of the USS Hancock Association.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board members of this association for all of their assistance
in guiding this organization.
Hope to see all of you in Kansas City in May.
